Research support

The TAFP Foundation uses tax-deductible gifts to promote, foster and sustain the future of family medicine. Among the Foundation’s major goals is to support and encourage family medicine research. In the past 28 years, the TAFP Foundation has provided more than $400,000 to over 100 research projects. Family physicians’ offices offer an immense and valuable laboratory for research in ambulatory medicine.

Apply for a research grant

The TAFP Foundation provides financial support towards office-based research to benefit the specialty. The Foundation Research Grants Committee reviews all grant applications based upon their relevance to family medicine, quality of the study design, appropriateness of data analysis, and cost versus benefit to family medicine. Grants are awarded twice a year – apply by Oct. 1 for funding to begin Dec. 1, or by March 1 for funding to begin May 1. Funding is limited to one year only.

Family Medicine Research Endowment Program

The Family Medicine Research Endowment Program provides a stable source of income to fund practice-based research in Texas. You can create a research fund in your name or the name of a colleague you wish to honor. All of the funds will be part of the Family Medicine Research Endowment Program. Collectively the funds will support the research efforts of the TAFP Foundation. Each fund honoree will be identified as a Family Medicine Research Champion.

Thank you to our current Family Medicine Research Champions and to all those who have donated to an endowment.

TAFP’s Research Poster Competition

Sponsored by the TAFP Foundation and Commission on Public Health, Clinical Affairs, and Research, TAFP’s annual poster competition provides a showcase for the research of family medicine students, residents, and community physicians. The competition occurs in conjunction with TAFP’s Annual Session and Primary Care Summit. Exhibits are designed to demonstrate a specific research activity, evidence-based review, or case report (students only), with an emphasis on practice-based research.
