Research Poster Competition

TAFP’s Annual Session and Primary Care Summit promotes scholarly activity by family medicine students, residents, and physicians; providing a unique opportunity to share research with the TAFP membership.

The competition is sponsored by the TAFP Foundation. The posters are designed to demonstrate a specific practice-based research activity, an evidenced-based review, or a case report (students only) — with an emphasis on practice-based research. There are required elements for the abstract. Use this document as a guide for your abstract.

The application deadline has passed. Please consider applying next year.

Eligibility

• Medical student, resident physician, or physician TAFP/AAFP Member
• Topic must be of value to and within the scope of family medicine

• Quality of study design
• Appropriateness of data analysis
• Strong conclusion

Timeline

• May | Application opens
• August | Application closes and TAFP abstract review process
• early September | Applicants will be informed of acceptance status
• late September | Final PDF poster submission deadline
• October | TAFP’s judging process
• late October | TAFP notifies participants of scoring results
• November | Posters displayed at ASPCS

Additional information

• All research must be completed at the time of application.
• Each abstract and poster will undergo a review process by family physicians. Applicants whose submissions have been accepted will be notified via email. Accepted entries must then submit PDF versions of their posters for winner determination.
• Participants will print and provide the posters for on-site presentation at TAFP’s Annual Session and Primary Care Summit on a TAFP-provided bulletin board surface. Please print your posters no larger than 46 inches x 46 inches. All posters must be set up by 9 a.m. on Saturday and remain on display until 5 p.m. Researchers must be present on-site and are encouraged to stand by their poster during the Saturday afternoon poster viewing session.
• Of the entries selected for display, the top three residents and top two physicians in both the Primary Research and Evidence-Based Review categories and the top two students in all three categories are awarded plaques. In addition, the resident winners receive cash prizes and the overall highest-scoring resident receives funding for travel to a national research conference.
