Foxhall elected to the TMA Board of Trustees

TAFP member Lewis Foxhall, M.D., of Houston was elected to serve on the Texas Medical Association Board of Trustees at the TexMed 2009 conference in May. As a member of the board, Foxhall will help manage TMA’s business and financial affairs, implement policies set forth by the House of Delegates, establish interim policy for TMA between meetings of the House of Delegates, and monitor program activities of TMA’s councils and committees.

Before the election, TAFP President Robert Youens, M.D., sent a letter of support to all TMA voting delegates. “In our careful consideration of all the candidates, we believe that right now—on the eve of a significant shift in health care delivery that will unsettle the very foundation of organized medicine—TMA must have leaders who will have the wisdom and courage borne of years of hard knocks and combat in the political trenches,” he wrote in the letter. Youens called Foxhall a “fighter” who “when knocked down, will get up off the canvas and keep punching.”

Foxhall has dedicated more than 30 years to improving the health of Texans. He currently serves as the vice president for health policy, medical director of the office of physician relations, and associate professor of clinical cancer prevention at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Within TAFP, he serves as a member of the TAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. Foxhall is also the president of the Harris County Medical Society and director of the Texas Statewide Family Medicine Preceptorship Program.
