Experience the ART of Family Medicine at the 59th Annual Session and Scientific Assembly

Besides being a major travel hub, the location of the 59th Annual Session and Scientific Assembly is also a hub for the arts and sciences. In this spirit, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians invites you to Houston to celebrate the art of family medicine at this year’s Annual Session, July 16-20. With 24 hours of high-quality CME available, and myriad business meetings and special events, TAFP’s largest symposium will showcase the best of the specialty.

All of the action will take place at the Westin Galleria Houston, connected to over 350 shops in the Galleria mall. In addition to ready access to Houston’s major shopping and cultural areas, use the convenient all-in-one location to visit with exhibitors, immerse yourself in the general session topics, participate in TAFP’s business meetings and celebrate the special events.

TAFP has partnered with the National Procedures Institute to provide attendees the opportunity to earn an extra 15.25 Prescribed AAFP CME credits. For a $950 fee, attendees of the two-day Aesthetics Workshop on July 16-17 will learn how to incorporate cosmetic evaluations, skin fillers, facial peels and lasers into current practice. Plus, get tips on how to market the new services to patients.

The TAFP Foundation is rolling out the red carpet for TAFP’s 60th anniversary, launching the $60 for 60 campaign at Annual Session. Through the campaign, the TAFP Foundation encourages members to donate $60 or more to the Foundation in honor of this milestone for family medicine. A limited number of special donors who give $100 will receive VIP treatment in the CME classroom with a reserved seating area, executive-style chairs and other perks. You’ll spend hours sitting; you may as well learn in style! This year’s CME topics include cancer screening in primary care, adult immunization, differential diagnosis and treatment of the skin, polypharmacy in the elderly, addiction medicine for primary care, and more.

Between Friday CME sessions, support family medicine research by visiting the student, resident and community physician poster displays. This year’s competition has added new categories, making entries in primary research, case reports and evidence-based review eligible for awards. Submit your research abstract to the TAFP office by May 16. Also stop by the Exhibit Hall on Friday and Saturday to learn about new products and services, interact with health care professionals and receive information on the latest advancements in medicine. The Exhibit Hall opens with breakfast Friday morning.

Don’t forget to attend the TAFP, TAFP Political Action Committee, and TAFP Foundation meetings while at Annual Session. At the commission, committee, task force, section and Board of Directors meetings family physicians will gather to discuss and form policy on all of the issues important to family medicine. All materials will be available online before the conference in the new Members-Only section of the TAFP Web site, www.tafp.org/membersOnly. The Section on Special Constituencies invites attendees to participate in the annual service project, Physicians With Heart, which allows physicians the opportunity to give back to a clinic in the Annual Session host city. This year’s monetary donations benefit the San José Clinic in Houston. Donate on the Annual Session registration form or online through the Foundation Web site.
