New contraceptive options available for Medicaid and TWHP patients
posted 8.27.14
Long-acting reversible contraception products became available Aug. 1, 2014 as a pharmacy benefit for female patients participating in Texas Medicaid and the Texas Women’s Health Program. While they are only available from three specialty pharmacies throughout Texas, the products can be shipped to providers statewide.
Physicians can continue using the buy and bill program to obtain the contraceptives. Providers obtaining LARC products through participating specialty pharmacies will be able to return unopened products to the manufacturer’s third-party processer. Mirena and Skyla are currently the only products available as pharmacy benefits.
