TAFP celebrates Hard Hats for Little Heads anniversary

posted 8.26.14

To help the Texas Medical Association celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hard Hats for Little Heads, the TAFP Board passed an action item earlier this year requesting extra funding for members wanting to hold Hard Hats events. This year also marks the 10th anniversary of TAFP’s involvement in the program. An extra $10,000 was budgeted for the Academy to spend on the program in fiscal year 2013-2014, most of which has already helped TAFP to sponsor twice as many events as usual.

With the fiscal year coming to an end, the funds need to be spent this week or will be lost. Next week begins fiscal year 2014-2015 and the Hard Hats budget will revert back to its normal amount, meaning the one event per physician rule will be reinstated to allow as many physicians as possible to give out helmets.

Hard Hats for Little Heads provides children with free bike helmets to encourage exercise and safety. TMA provides physicians with 50 free helmets to give away in their clinics or at community events and TAFP members get an additional 50 helmets for free. Physicians interested in participating in Hard Hats can contact TMA’s Tammy Wishard at tammy.wishard@texmed.org.
