Physicians examining truck drivers must now be certified

posted 12.4.13

Physicians wishing to examine interstate truck drivers and issue medical certificates to them must now be certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, according to The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. Doctors currently examining truck drivers and wishing to continue to do so must go through a certification course and pass the exam by May 21, 2014. Examiners must also complete a refresher course every five years and pass a recertification test every 10 years.

To assist Texas physicians in getting certified, TAFP has partnered with the Texas Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians in presenting a certified medical examiners’ training course. The course will be held at the UNTHSC-TCOM campus on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and costs $450.
