March, April, May: Three key months for giveaways
posted 02.07.13
TAFP members: Did you know you can give away up to 100 bicycle helmets in your community at no cost to you? The Texas Medical Association encourages you to give helmets in your community through the Hard Hats for Little Heads program.
Three great times to host a helmet giveaway are fast approaching: Brain Injury Awareness Month in March, Texas Child Safety Month in April, and Bike Month in May. All three months provide a “media hook,” or a tie-in for an event.
Schools, health fairs, and community events are perfect places to give away helmets or you can create your own event idea. TMA provides all you need for a successful event, from helmets to educational materials (in English and Spanish) to publicity materials.
As a TAFP member, you receive a unique benefit. Your Academy will cover the cost of up to 50 helmets for members who sponsor a helmet giveaway. TMA provides an equal match of free helmets on purchases up to 50, so TAFP members can get up to 100 helmets to give away at no cost. If you need more helmets, you can purchase them at TMA’s price of $7.35 each, including shipping.
During March, April, and May, TMA promotes helmet giveaways to local media. Check out the media advisory from last year’s Bike Month and start planning your event now. To learn more, contact Tammy Wishard, TMA outreach coordinator, at (512) 370-1470 or tammy.wishard@texmed.org.
Hard Hats for Little Heads is made possible through a grant from TMA Foundation thanks to top donors — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Prudential, and two anonymous foundations — and gifts from physicians and their families. TAFP’s participation in the Hard Hats program is made possible in part by a grant from the AAFP Foundation’s Family Medicine Philanthropic Consortium.
