Loan repayment application deadline extended
to June 15, 2010

The Department of State Health Services announced at the end of March that the application deadline for the state’s new physician education loan repayment program has been extended from April 1, 2010, to June 15, 2010, for the service period starting July 2010. In the statement, the department recommends e-mailing or calling the Texas Primary Care Office with any questions about the incentive program at TexasPCO@dshs.state.tx or (512) 458-7518.

The new loan repayment program passed by the 81st Texas Legislature will pay up to $160,000 to physicians who agree to practice for four years in primary care Health Professional Shortage Areas. The program could dramatically increase access to care for Texans by bringing as many as 225 physicians to underserved communities.
