In an effort to educate the public about family medicine and encourage medical students to pursue a career in the specialty, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians has launched the I Am A Family Doctor video, which shows the breadth and depth of family medicine by highlighting innovative family medicine practices around the state.
The main I Am A Family Doctor video features family physicians who address common questions about the specialty. The accompanying satellite videos allow the physicians to delve deeper into their niche of family medicine, which span from sports medicine to part-time practice, academic medicine to rural medicine. See what the featured physicians have to say by viewing the main video and satellite videos on the Academy’s brand-new website, www.BeAFamilyDoc.com.
Coupled with the launch of the new video, TAFP has also launched the I Am A Family Doctor video contest. All family physicians and family medicine residents are invited to submit a short video about why they enjoy family medicine, and medical students are invited to tell why they want to become family physicians. Entries may be submitted collaboratively or solo. Top videos will be displayed on www.BeAFamilyDoc.com and the winners, chosen at TAFP’s 61st Annual Session and Scientific Assembly in San Antonio, will win prizes. Go to http://beafamilydoc.com/video-contest-rules for more information on the contest.
TAFP encourages you to bookmark the new website, www.BeAFamilyDoc.com, and share it widely with medical students and the public. Check back often as TAFP develops this interactive forum.
