Henry J. Boehm, Jr., MD, Scholarship
Established through the generosity of the Boehm family, it honors Dr. Boehm from Brenham, Texas. Dr. and Mrs. Boehm were longtime members of the TAFP Foundation Board of Trustees and the first recipients of the TAFP Foundation Philanthropist of the Year award. Award details: The scholarship recognizes a resident at the Brazos Valley Family Medicine Residency program in Bryan for scholarly activity and provides travel funding to attend a medical meeting.
Cecil M. French, MD, Scholarship
Established by the TAFP Foundation in honor of Dr. French from San Angelo, Texas. Dr. French was past president of TAFP and a founding member of the TAFP Foundation. Award details: Resident chair receives travel funding for TAFP’s Interim and Annual Sessions.
Richard B. Hartin, MD, Scholarship
Established by the TAFP Foundation in honor of Dr. Hartin. Dr. Hartin was a longtime member of the Dallas Chapter. Award details: Resident vice chair receives travel funding for TAFP’s Interim and Annual Sessions.
James C. Martin, MD, Scholarship
Established by the TAFP Foundation in honor of James C. Martin, MD. Dr. Martin has been an active leader in TAFP and AAFP for many years. He is past president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Award details: This scholarship is to be used to fund a resident to participate in public policy research and development in Austin, TX.
Cassie Murphy-Cullen, PhD, Scholarship
Established by her former residents and colleagues, as well as the TAFP Foundation, in honor of Dr. Cassie Murphy-Cullen. Murphy-Cullen trained residents in research for many years as Assistant Professor and Director of Behavioral Medicine and Research in the Department of Family Medicine at UT Southwestern and Charlton Methodist Family Practice Residency Program. Award details: This scholarship provides funding for Texas family medicine residents to attend national conferences to present their research.

Sam A. Nixon, MD, Scholarship
Established by the TAFP Foundation to honor Dr. Nixon. Dr. Nixon was past president of TAFP, AAFP and the TAFP Foundation. The leadership scholarship was established after his service as Foundation President in 2001. Award details: Resident delegate and alternate delegate travel to the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Students.
Philip Thorek, MD Scholarship
Established by the TAFP Foundation in honor of Dr. Thorek. Dr. Thorek was the keynote speaker at the first TAFP Annual Session. He continued to present the keynote lecture at TAFP Annual Sessions until his death and was loved, admired and respected by the members of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. Award details: Resident directors to the TAFP Board of Directors receive travel funding for TAFP’s Annual Session.
