TAFP’s Resident Leadership Experience

In today’s rapidly changing environment, health care enterprises need leaders who can anticipate what’s coming next, make solid decisions in the face of ambiguity, and deploy their talent effectively. At TAFP, we believe these leaders should be well-trained family physicians capable of articulating a compelling vision for the future and of winning the trust and support needed to carry out this vision.

TAFP created the Family Medicine Leadership Experience in 2016 and over 100 TAFP members have completed the program so far. In 2022, we will launch the TAFP Resident Leadership Experience to provide more opportunities for resident members. It will include some components from FMLE plus new content, mentoring, connection to a small group throughout the program, and virtual learning opportunities.

Through interactive learning sessions, didactic lectures, case presentations, multimedia presentations, and small-group breakouts, the TAFP Resident Leadership Experience will provide expert training in:

  • persuasive communication,
  • negotiation and conflict resolution,
  • public speaking, and
  • winning media engagements.

Are you ready to gain the skills you need to enhance your leadership? Apply for the TAFP Resident Leadership Experience.

This program is funded in part by a grant from the American Board of Family Medicine.

Program Information

Over the course of the academic year, participants will attend two in-person sessions in Austin lasting one to two days, and multiple virtual sessions on weeknights and Saturdays. Participants must attend both in-person sessions to graduate from the program. The virtual sessions will be recorded when possible and made available for those who have rotation conflicts.

There is no tuition fee and TAFP and the TAFP Foundation will provide housing expenses and airfare reimbursement for participants who live more than 300 miles from Austin. TAFP provides meals and program materials during training.
