The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has reinstated the enrollment procedure for the state’s Physician Education Loan Repayment Program, through which physicians who agree to practice for four years in primary care Health Professional Shortage Areas can receive up to $160,000 in loan repayment. The program had stopped accepting applications in the summer of 2011, but after a significant investment by the 83rd Texas Legislature, the program began accepting applications again on May 28, 2013. The deadline for this enrollment period is Aug. 31, 2013.

The Legislature’s investment in this program opens a tremendous opportunity for Texas physicians to repay their educational loans and for underserved communities across the state to recruit new physicians. Help us spread the word so that together, we can make this program a success and increase access to health care for communities in need.
