AMA releases free HIPAA toolkit
The American Medical Association compiled various resources to assist physicians in reviewing and updating their policies regarding the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. All covered physicians have until Sept. 23, next Monday, to update policies so they comply with new regulations set in the final HIPAA Omnibus Rule. The toolkit includes instructions, frequently asked questions, and templates for the new privacy notices and agreements with business associates that handle patient information. Resources regarding health insurance exchange, opening Oct. 1
With Oct. 1 being just around the corner, here are some resources to prepare you and your patients for enrollment to begin in the health insurance marketplace. AAFP has resources for physicians at aafp.org, and a section of familydoctor.org focusing on the marketplace to assist patients. TAFP has also created a toolkit to assist both physicians and patients with the exchange.  
Online prescription drug abuse CME
The National Institute on Drug Abuse and Medscape Education present two online CME courses focusing on prescription drugs. “Safe Prescribing for Pain” is worth 1.25 CME credits and “Managing Pain Patients Who Abuse Rx Drugs” is worth 1.75 CME credits. PCMH collaborative answers your questions
The Texas Medicaid Wellness Program and TransforMED will host a collaborative, “PCMH – Everything You Need To Know,’ that will help interested physicians understand the patient-centered medical home and how it will impact their practices, and allow attendees to earn up to 4 CME credits. The Dallas program will be Sept. 20, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Conroe program will be Sept. 25, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The San Antonio program will be Sept. 27, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
