Gain understanding of the new transitional care management codes with
Family Practice Management
Physicians coordinating care for patients discharged from a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or community mental health center can use a new set of codes to be paid for this work. The codes, which went into effect Jan. 1, cover services provided during the first 30 days post-release. They’ve caused some confusion, but Family Practice Management is here to help. Check out their post on the “Getting Paid” blog for answers to common questions about the transitional care management codes. Follow this link to the Getting Paid blog.

Manufacturers still have influenza vaccine available
Sanofi Pasteur has recently made available additional influenza vaccine for pediatric patients; specifically, they have released additional lots of Fluzone in 0.25 mL prefilled syringes for use in children ages 6 months through 35 months as well as Fluzone in 0.5 mL vials for those ages 3 and older. This now results in several products that can be used with children and adults, including Afluria by CSL Biotherapies (age 9 years and older), FluMist by MedImmune (age 2 years and older), Fluvirin by Novartis (age 4 years and older), and Fluzone by Sanofi Pasteur (age 6 months and older). Several products are also still available that are licensed for use in adults only, including FluLaval by ID Biomedical Corp (age 18 years and older), Fluzone High-Dose by sanofi (age 65 years and older), and Fluzone Intradermal by Sanofi (age 18 through 64 years). You can view all information from distributors as well as Sanofi Pasteur on the National Influenza Vaccine Summit’s website at www.preventinfluenza.org.
