AAFP creates Medicare bonus/penalty chart for members
New Medicare initiatives provide opportunities for family physicians to demonstrate the value of primary care and increase revenue, but inaction on these initiatives could expose you to penalties. To help navigate these programs, AAFP has created a summary chart of potential bonuses to earn and penalties to be assessed through four initiatives: the Medicare EHR Incentive Program, the Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program, the Physician Quality Reporting System, and the Value-Based Payment Modifier Program. Check out the Medicare Initiatives and You: Bonuses and Penalties chart when considering whether and how to participate. Go to www.aafp.org/bonuspenalty.
DSHS initiative aims to reduce infant mortality, physicians can help
The Texas Department of State Health Services developed the Healthy Texas Babies initiative to help Texas communities decrease infant mortality using evidence-based interventions. You’ve likely heard of their two recommendations: to eliminate non-medically indicated inductions of labor or cesarean delivery prior to 39 weeks’ gestation, and to improve outcomes for premature babies by improving transport protocols. Healthy Texas Babies has compiled a number of educational resources for physicians and other providers, including modules on cultural competence, research on best practices in childbirth, breastfeeding support, and others. Go to www.dshs.state.tx.us/HealthyTexasBabies and share these resources with your staff and patients.
