Presenting the second issue of the TAFP Products & Services e-newsletter, a monthly communication to highlight products, services, and member benefits from TAFP and AAFP, and from TAFP’s partners.

Each month we highlight products and services important to family physicians — practice management tools and resources, educational opportunities, public health materials, and more. See this month’s offerings below. For more information, go to the Products & Services section of TAFP’s website, www.tafp.org/resources/products.

AAFP Connection: Join the EHR and Health IT Community
Like Facebook, AAFP Connection is a place to connect to your peers. Unlike Facebook, it’s a secure members-only community, available exclusively to family physicians. Through this portal, AAFP members can find other physicians with common interests and interact in a secure environment through discussion forums, file share, and Wikis. It’s organized through topic-based “communities.” One of the communities — the EHR and Health IT Community — covers best practices on the four EHR stages: preparation, selection, implementation, and maintenance, as well as steps to meaningful use. To join this community and learn more about AAFP Connection, go to http://community.aafp.org/default.aspx.
TMA HIT offers free phone consultations
Need help with health information technology? TMA members can receive a free 30-minute phone consultation on electronic health records (EHRs), e-prescribing, federal incentives, and meaningful use. TMA’s HIT staff will talk with physicians one-on-one to answer their questions: What EHR incentive program is right for me? Will EHRs be mandatory? What steps are required to earn EHR incentives? How long will incentives be available?  Where can I turn for on-site technical consulting? Schedule a consultation by e-mailing HIT@texmed.org with your name, phone number, and preferred contact time (morning, afternoon, evening), or by calling the TMA HIT helpline at (800) 880-5720.
