CAPITOL UPDATE: New TAFP video urges lawmakers to improve Texas primary care physician workforce TAFP released a new video health policy brief this week that urges lawmakers to address the state’s overburdened primary care infrastructure by restoring support for primary care residency training, providing incentives to medical schools to produce more primary care physicians, and recommitting to the promise of physician education loan repayment. AAFP News Now: HHS rolls out HIPAA omnibus rule Final rule strengthens privacy, security for consumer health data The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 was strengthened recently when HHS announced that its Office for Civil Rights had released a final rule that will implement a number of privacy and security changes. The final omnibus rule was published in the Jan. 25 Federal Register and is effective on March 26. Physicians and other covered entities must be in compliance with the final rule by Sept. 23.
