CMS extends e-prescribing hardship deadline

The Association of American Medical Colleges is calling for the enactment of four core recommendations to increase the number of U.S. physicians and alleviate a growing physician shortage. They include a recommendation to increase the number of primary care residency positions, which AAFP says is the first recommendation of its kind specific to primary care. AAFP News Now: AAFP kicks off social media campaign of Thanksgiving
AAFP is asking members passionate about family medicine to participate in a social media outreach campaign throughout the month of November that is designed to promote family medicine, family physicians, and their practices to their patients and the general public on social media channels. The campaign, which is called “Thankful for the specialty of family medicine!” was developed in response to a resolution from the 2012 National Conference of Special Constituencies that called on AAFP to develop a toolkit to help members market and promote family medicine via social media. Great American Smokeout presents opportunity for tobacco cessation education
Thursday, Nov. 15 marks this year’s Great American Smokeout, a day of awareness and action sponsored by the American Cancer Society that challenges people to stop using tobacco and educates them on the tools they can use to quit. AAFP provides many tools and resources to family physicians to help them discuss tobacco cessation with their patients and get paid appropriately for this counseling. more...

Both will be presented on Dec. 8 and will give you credit for one component of your ABFM Maintenance of Certification process.
