As the Nov. 6 general election nears, citizens around the state and country are fired up for their civic duty and are dedicating time and money to the political process. TAFP is gearing up for the 83rd Texas Legislature and Texas family doctors will play an important role in the success of our advocacy efforts. Physician serves rural Texas and Ecuador through practice, institute

Jorge Duchicela, M.D., is a rural private practice physician in Weimar where he serves a community of patients that is diverse in ethnicity, age, gender, geographical location, and social stratum. He also founded Cachamsi, a nonprofit medical immersion institute, in Cacha, Ecuador, that brings health professionals to this rural community to care for the patients there, learn Spanish so they can better communicate with their Spanish-speaking patients at home, and learn global and cross-cultural medicine. more...

GO! Diabetes completes its fourth year, celebrates highlights in Fieldbook 2012
GO! Diabetes provides tools for family physicians, faculty, residents, and clinicians to achieve higher standards of diabetes and patient care through practice improvements and system changes. The program just completed its fourth year educating program leaders in diabetes management and team care to help them identify, initiate, and implement sustainable clinical, practice, and system-based quality improvements. To celebrate, program leaders published the Fieldbook 2012 featuring success stories from “change agents,” including TAFP members and their staffs. more...

Attend a TAFP SAM workshop and make progress toward your MC-FP
Trying to complete Maintenance of Certification requirements before the end of the year? We can help! TAFP presents two SAM workshops on Dec. 8. Attend the Fort Worth workshop on hypertension or the San Antonio workshop on caring for the vulnerable elderly. Joining TAFP for either workshop gives you credit for one component of your ABFM Maintenance of Certification process. Go to TAFP’s events page for more information and to register.
