AAFP, specialty organizations develop strategy to avoid Medicare payment cut
Ramping up the effort to advocate against damaging cuts to Medicare and graduate medical education, AAFP met with representatives from seven medical societies and seven professional organizations last Wednesday to work on a unified strategy for approaching the congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction as its members formulate a plan to cut $1.2 trillion in federal spending.

AAFP News Now: Bundled payment initiative may provide opportunities for family medicine
Program focuses on reducing expensive hospitalizations
A new broad-based initiative from CMS will pay a predetermined amount to physicians and hospitals for managing patient care inside and outside of hospitals, and could give participating family physicians an opportunity to enhance patient care—as well as their incomes—by successfully reducing and preventing patient hospitalizations. The ABFM SAM Group Study Workshop on Asthma in Lubbock has been moved to Dec. 10. Including the Lubbock program, there are just six more opportunities to attend a SAM workshop in 2011 and make progress toward your American Board of Family Medicine’s Maintenance of Certification.
